Today we are going to Boston!
As you may or may not know, I am a New England girl. I have spent a lot of time in the city of Boston over the years. Having been raised in music and theater, I have spent a lot of time at the former Wang Center for the Performing Arts (now the Boch Center which manages the Wang and the Schubert Theaters, respectively) taking classes and graduated from modeling school on Boylston Street. Boston is very close to my heart.
Not long ago, I discovered Cori Copley on Instagram. This is the dog-in-residence at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel. Needless to say, this is a very dog-friendly hotel. They offer multiple perks for hotel guests and their pups, including a 20% off voucher to Boston Barkery. ONYVA and Fairmont have partnered to offer your canine companion a complimentary “Brush and Go” service, in which your dog received a dry shampoo and a brush so they can look their best. The Fairmont also wants the world to know that you have stayed with them by tagging Cori’s Instagram, @coricopley. That’s definitely VIP treatment.
Cori is usually working, but just in case, be sure to give the hotel a call in advance if you want to make sure you meet Cori. Sometimes she has PTO - “pawsome time off.”
After you check in to the Fairmont Copley Plaza, you are most certainly going to wonder what in the world you’re going to eat in this city. I know the difficulty, there is so much that is so good. I sifted through quite a few restaurants for this choice, and this will definitely not be the last post about Boston, so we are going with Bistro du Midi on Boylston Street.
French with an expansive set of menus, you and your chienne have some serious options. With brunch served on the weekends and lunch on weekdays, you can’t go wrong after the sun is in the sky over Back Bay. Dinner is served nightly beginning at 5:00.
Now, about that chienne. Al-fresco dining. On the street. Wrought iron. You will feel like you are open-air dining in Europe. They have worked hard to create this atmosphere and it shows. Your dog will love to people watch as you lose yourself in the experience.
Inside, the bar is like something out of a novel. The interior design of the restaurant is a fusion of clean European lines and simple decor that are reminiscent of the historic halls in Boston.
The food. You cannot talk about New England without seafood - or at least it is very difficult. It’s like trying to talk about New York City without hot dogs or pizza. I find all of the menus to be quite expansive, in my opinion. The brunch menu has so much to offer, all gourmet, from flatbreads to seafood to pancakes - the list goes on. Prosciutto Benedict? Oui.
The lunch menu offers a fusion of both casual and elegant, maintaining a bistro-vibe. With ample appetizers and a hearty main course menu, you’ll be sure to find something you love.
Now on to dinner. I’ll gladly start with the shrimp cocktail, followed by the smoked white asparagus soup as I share the charcuterie selection with friends and finish with the filet Mignon, medium rare. All while sharing a piece of bread with my pup.
Finish? I was mistaken. I forgot dessert! While I would be tempted to go for the artisanal cheese board (again), I would probably share a crime brûlée, a chocolate soufflé and the apricot clafoutis with friends.
I also might ask for some vanilla ice cream with whipped cream for my pup, if the staff deemed it appropriate and that flavor was available.
Do not forget to ask about their incredible wine selection. Ben Chesna, Wine and Beverage Director, has worked hard to bring you the best.
There are five people, including Ben, listed on the “About Us” page of the restaurant, and they all deserve so much credit for creating such an amazing atmosphere and experience. Owner Chris Himmel and Chef-Partner Sisca have brought an incredible experience to the public through their passion for food and gathering. Also, let’s give them all a huge round of applause because running a restaurant during the pandemic, especially in a city, was tough work.
Your dog can tell, from your pheromones, when you are having a great time. If you dine at Bistro du Midi, there is no doubt that your pup will know that you are happy.
After all that enjoyment, you’re going to need that comfortable bed at the Fairmont Copley Plaza.
Boston was our stop for today, but who knows where our paws will take us tomorrow! We have four of them, so let’s put them to good use!
